Welcome in the New Year!

Welcome in the New Year 2012 !

A New Year is a New Beginning
and a wonderful excuse to make some changes.

Our Blog „Handmade In Poland” will change too, in part thanks to some new people on deck.

Isabella and Alicja have joined our editorial staff. Thanks to them we will have two new monthly columns.

1.Poletsy Best Deals of the Month
At the beginning of each month Isabella will showcase the most interesting offers from POLetsy Shops and the best prices and "can't miss" deals. The wide variety of Poletsy shops will allow you to get truly unique goods at great prices.

2. Selling on Etsy
This column is written in turn by Alicja. I hope that this monthly post will become a regular feature where members will check for hints and advice for their own Etsy stores. I for one can't wait to read the tips and advice in this new column!

3. The third new thing in the blog, a very attractive thing for readers, will be :

MONTHLY GIVEAWAY

Each reader will be able to participate year round and win great treasures made by 12 wonderful stores from the Polish Team on Etsy.

There will also be changes which will effect the
functionality and appearance of the Blog.

The biggest change is the REBUILDING of the Shop Directory.
I hope that this will encourage our readers to take a peek into some of the shops - all full of wonderful goods. The Poletsy team has so much to choose from.
It is my dream that our blog will become a place from which you can launch your adventure with handcrafted items of top quality and a place you'll return to when you look for unique items made with the utmost care.

I'd like to take this opportunity to
Greet and Thank all the
readers and followers of this Blog as well as our editors.
Two months ago, with some trepidation,
I signed on to lead the Blog, thanks to you,
it has been a wonderful experience
and I wish that our cooperation will continue.
To ALL OF YOU:
I wish an Amazing Year 2012.
I wish you faith in your dreams, the fulfillment of these dreams and great success!

To celebrate the new year, Agnieszka, who is the editor of Creative Material and the owner of the store bialakura, made a free Calendar for the Year 2012 for all our readers which you can download and print!

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Creative material: wood

Alina z Antidotum sais: Wood is a beautiful material and creates special feeling when worn as jewelery part. It brings you warmth and calmness. Closer look reveals its complex and delicate pattern of grains and shades of each layers. Wood works best with contrasting materials ie. metal. Combined with textiles, wood ephasizes their natural feel.

Dorota z Emerald Mystery sais: I use wood because I just love it. In natural color, painted or varnished. In my work I use wooden buttons and beads: simple and decorative as well. I combine wood with many materials as well as fabrics or yarn. For earrings I mix it also with coconut, felt, mother of pearl and stone (I especially like the combination of turquoise and natural wood). The wood is light, which is especially important in earrings, it feels warm and friendly.

Dorota z Devika Box sais: One of my favourite materials to work with when I create my jewelry are colorful wooden beads. I believe wooden jewelry combines elegance and fashion as well as the beauty of simplicity. Chunky, round and what more important very light, are perfect to mix with felt or silver. I also love using small wooden beads of different shapes to finish my necklaces or to separate larger elements. Wood, for me, has this " Nature feeling" and I love to give this earthy touch to some of my jewelry.

Witold z Szostak sais: Wood is a versatile material, available and used almost anywhere. However, from the same piece, depending on location, destination, method of treating, finishing, ideas, heart and talent one can do shelves in the basement, or create something that will not let us forget it - and that’s what I like. You can not ignore the fact that wood is durable material, often very hard to work with it’s not different from the struggle with steel, stone or concrete, with which wood combines great in architecture and design.
I feel real relief as I finish something - especially a large, complex and laborious piece. Working with wood can be really tough. However, the reward: the revelation of the finished item a source of satisfaction.

Creative Material: coral

Coral is one of the finest materials with which I had the chance to work with sais Karolina of LilNut. There are many varieties of coral, however, my darlings are cherry ones. Their color does draw attention. Its intense colour highlights the beauty of women with dark hair! It also goes superbly with the black clothing. Coral jewelry should be kept in cotton bag - Karolina continues - you should also avoid contact with detergents and potent substances - that could tarnish its surface.

Kasia of KicaBijoux sais: I of ten use coral In my jewellery Project because I love its natural warm look. I do appreciate its colour differences and interesting surface structure. What is most important for me: it goes perfectly with copper - no matter what colour it is!

Małgosia of Vivitoo adds: I love coral, especially red coloured. I’ve just discovered more colours and do trials. Coral came to me from Polish folk culture: our girls used to wear strands of coral beads - it was sign of wealth! Besides - they liked nice jewelry! I use coral in folk style pieces, I love this style very much! I’ve started to make textile jewelry "sea side style" with coral combined with pearls and glass beads and I'm glad of effect! Małgosia sais: I like irregular, roots shaped coral. It looks a little bit wild, but so interesting for imagination! I hope the best creations with coral still wait for me!
