Ula Phelep is the person behind Ula Bazaar - an Etsy store with original painting art, illustrations and prints.
Tell us something about yourself
My
name is Ula, I am a Pole living in France for 10 years now, the
reason to move there was of course the love to a handsome Frenchman.
I love creating something out of nothing, all kinds of handcraft and
artistic inspirations.
I try to make my every day creative in some
way, which is best presented on my blog 'Sen Mai' (www.senmai.pl)
How did you start to paint?
It
all started when I was a little girl. Since I can remember I would
always draw on some pieces of paper that I found around the house (if
I run out of drawing pad), or in notebooks, I also attended art
classes in primary school and dreamed of attending art high school.
However, my fate was different. I finished 'regular' high school, I
went to law studies and somehow forgot about my passion of painting.
Only after giving birth to my daughter and on maternity leave I came
back to my creative life. It's amazing how children can bring us on
the right track of life.
Your favorite technique, materials?
I
enjoy simply to sit by the table with a sheet of paper and a pencil
and start drawing. It often happens that the pictures are in 'naive'
style, little girls, like from cartoons, with sad faces.
At this
stage I either redraw the pencil lines with a gel pen, then I scan it
and color it in Photoshop to make a print illustration, or I color it
with water-colors for original illustration.
I
also create on canvas by painting it with watercolors.
What inspires you?
My
biggest inspiration are colors, blending them together, their shades.
I
love browsing creative blogs, fashion blogs and Pinterest, to which
I became addicted lately. I also take a lot of inspiration from other
artists on Etsy.
What do you do apart from painting?
Apart
from painting and selling on Etsy, I run a creative-lifestyle blog
'Sen Mai' (www.senmai.pl)
in which I basically write everyday about my artistic inspirations,
introduce DIY techniques, I teach basics of photography and blogging.
Except that I am also a founder of 'UP Kreatywny Marketing'
(urszula-phelep.com),
where thanks to my blog posts and weekly newsletter I present simple
methods for liking the marketing for people from handcraft world.
Additionally,
I work 'daily' in administration on Univerity in Nantes, in
International Service, I take care of the house and two adorable
kids.
Who would you like to be in 10 years?
My
biggest professional dream is the possibility to develop selling my
illustrations as well as my blog activity and marketing site so that
I could leave the boring job at the office. When I look into the future
I see myself somewhere in a peaceful place, working at home, enjoying
every day and every moment of my life spent with my family.
